What do we mean by “evidence-based journalism”?

The other aspect of questionable journalism is reporting on polls — as if reporting how people feel about a certain subject is somehow “evidence-based”. This sort of reporting of what may be little more than collective ignorance does little or nothing to provide the public with the information we need to make good decisions.
