Thanks for the article. Two quick things I wanted to note:

  • I’m in the Math Department at Grand Valley State University in Michigan, and we’re moving toward a model where linear algebra is at the center of the curriculum. We took our existing one-semester second-year intro course, split it into a year-long sequence, took out topics that didn’t seem relevant, put in a bunch of modern applications, infused it with Python and Jupyter notebooks, amped up our coverage of eigenvalues, and now offer it as a first-year sequence that freshmen can take instead of (or in addition to) calculus. AMA about it — it’s a pretty awesome thing.
  • Also awesome is my colleague David Austin’s free online textbook Understanding Linear Algebra which is he writing to be used in this course sequence.
