Don’t be Fooled: Why Bernie Sanders Supporters Should Stay Clear of Gary Johnson

You are correct, there is no way in hell a Sanders supporter would support Johnson. We have completely 180 degree views on just about every policy position.

Regarding libertarian thought? We believe all rights are absolute granted by our Creator, or natural law if you don’t believe in a Creator, and not granted by the state, only government intervention into our lives is what we can control. The Constitution does not enumerate our rights, it enumerates limits on the Federal government.

Regarding rights and discrimination, this is from our platform:

“3.5 Rights and Discrimination

Libertarians embrace the concept that all people are born with certain inherent rights. We reject the idea that a natural right can ever impose an obligation upon others to fulfill that “right.” We condemn bigotry as irrational and repugnant. Government should neither deny nor abridge any individual’s human right based upon sex, wealth, ethnicity, creed, age, national origin, personal habits, political preference or sexual orientation. Members of private organizations retain their rights to set whatever standards of association they deem appropriate, and individuals are free to respond with ostracism, boycotts and other free-market solutions.

Use social pressure to create change, not but by threat of violence from the government.

Regarding compassion and helping your neighbor. Sitting on your ass and voting to take someone else’s money by threat of violence is not compassion. Privately and voluntarily getting off your butt and donating $10 or $25 a paycheck to a private charity you like, or donating your time, is compassion.

And to be honest, if Bernie and his supporters are intellectually honest, to pay for what he wants we need a broad tax across all classes, not just the “rich”. That’s how Europe and his beloved Norwegian countries do it. (Norway is an “oilgarchy”, but that’s beside the point.) Yes, it’s very popular to tell people that the other guy will pay for your free shit.

Bottom line, progressives want government involved in EVERY aspect of our lives. Libertarians want you to live it with as minimal cohesion as possible. We are responsible for our own lives and our own actions.

If we respect each others rights, we don’t need government. Only when people, property or rights are violated do we need government.
