Tips for Bringing Yorkie Puppies Home

Different pet stores offer Yorkie puppies for sale at timely interval wherein you can purchase a cute and adorable puppy and make it an indispensable part of your family. So, have you taken advantage of the sale and purchased a Yorkie puppy. If you are going to bring the puppy home soon, following tips will help you make your puppy feel comfortable and adjust in your home at the earliest.

Introduce one Family Member at a Time

Although all the members of your family will wish to hold your pet, it is crucial to ensure limit handling in the first few days until your puppy adjusts to its new surroundings. Set up its bed, food and litter box in a quiet room where it can be secure until it gets familiar to its new home. Introduce one family member at a time and allow the puppy to come to you and learn to touch. If you have kids at home, instruct them not to grab the puppy’s tail or ear or tease it. Always supervise kid’s interaction with pet to ensure that kids become friendly with the pet and treat it with respect and care.

Make your Home Safe for Yorkie Puppy

Yorkie puppies can get choked or tangled by anything hanging or swinging. So, securely anchor drapes or blind cords and keep them out of reach of your new pet. Keep balloons, Christmas decorations, jewelries and rubber bands away so that your puppy may not swallow them. Additionally, remove poisonous plants away, close bathroom and kitchen cabinets so that your pet does not get hold of dental floss, detergent or bleach while touring your home. In the laundry area, keep dryer and washing machines door closed. Just keep in mind that if something is harmful for a toddler, the same applies to your puppy.

Give Room to Room Tour

Once you have made your home safe for your pet, you can now give a home tour. Let your pet walk around and explore the rooms while you sit quietly. Keep talking to your puppy and encourage it. Be vigilant as your puppy may hide under a bed or behind a refrigerator. If you do not wish your puppy to adopt a habit of sitting on your bed, gently remove it and place it on the floor. This will give your puppy an idea that climbing on your bed is not allowed and it will learn to keep this instruction in mind.
