Konami’s Dark Adventure Is Returning To Consoles — With Its Cheesy Indiana Jones Clone Intact!
Arcade Archives is out here doing great work when it comes to preserving classic arcade games for a new generation to enjoy. We’ve already seen what it’s done for the likes of Rolling Thunder 2, Growl and Sunsetriders, amongst countless others. And it still keeps going.
The company announced during a recent livestream for today’s release, Mad Shark, that it would have Konami’s Dark Adventure set to go next week, Thursday, August 17th. Like previous releases (save for any mega-license ones), it’s likely to go for $7.99. A reasonable value.
Never heard of Dark Adventure? Well, it’s one of those “lost” Konami releases that we thought would never resurface. It released in 1987, transporting an Indiana Jones-style character named Dr. Condor, along with a reporter named Labryna and an archaeologist named Zorlock, into a mysterious world with enemies that have to be destroyed.
The game has comparisons to the Atari classic Gauntlet, but with its own distinctive touches. And I swear, there’s a little bit of Castlevania in there.
As part of its release overseas, Konami would call the game Devil World and distribute it as a two-player adventure, with the removal of Zorlock and a focus on more long-range weapon action. It was…a bit odd, to say the least, but still enjoyable.
Anyway, this game hasn’t been seen in years, but now Hamster will give it another chance to make a first impression. And, honestly, it’s a good opportunity.
Obviously it won’t be a hit with everyone, and some might argue about its quality level. But, again, an arcade game from 1987, so maybe don’t look into it too deeply.
I’m happy to see the game finally get some love on the home market, especially since now I can play it without having to fiddle with an emulator. And the home release will include all versions of the game, so players can enjoy the three-player Dark Adventure ruckus as it was initially intended.
Keep bringing on the classics. I’ll keep playing them.
See you guys next time!
