Someone Made a Happy Gilmore Pinball Machine and It’s Pretty Wild
The pinball scene these days is pretty great. Stern Pinball continues to churn out hits, like its forthcoming table based on the classic film Jaws; and other companies are doing some great tables as well, like the amazing Labyrinth.
But designer Brian Soares with Gameroom Pinball and Reby Hardy with Hardy Pinball decided to go the extra mile and create a pinball machine based on the Adam Sandler film Happy Gilmore.
You remember the movie, right? You had Sandler playing the ultra-violent golf player, getting in fights with Bob Barker (and losing!) and dealing with the ultra-snotty Shooter McGavin (“I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast!”). It’s an instant classic, and even has a bit of Ben Stiller for good measure.
Anyway, the duo decided to work on the Happy Gilmore pinball machine for a client. And it’s pretty nuts. It actually looks like a genuine pinball machine you’d play in a local arcade ball, complete with custom DMD work, callouts, artwork and more. There’s even an alligator head, something Chubbs would approve of (before dying, obviously).
Now, Brian had done custom tables before, including ones based on Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and, as of recently, The Goonies. (Yeah, we need it.) But this is impressive stuff, capturing the essence and comedy of the film while still remaining a great playing pinball table.
Here’s the full list of features, so you have an idea of what kind of effort the team put into the table:
- The TV mod (similar model to the one in grandmas nursing home room) that plays the Happy Gilmore movie
- Cracker/golf ball start button
- Subway sandwich shooter rod
- Taxidermy alligator head
- Large scale checks
- Replica hockey stick putter
- Chubbs memorial
- Alligator eyeball in a jar
- Chubbs wooden hand
- Tap it In wooden speaker inserts
- Mini golf clown mouth mod
Oh, and enjoy these features — including a shoutout to Subway Sandwiches!
- Mini TV (mod that plays the Happy Gilmore movie)
- Cracker/golf ball start button
- Subway sandwich shooter rod
- Taxidermy alligator head
- Turf cover pop bumpers
- Shooter McGavin autographed golf ball
- Price is Wrong Bitch ball marker
- Tap it In wooden speaker inserts
- HAL L. name badge
- Mini golf clown mouth mod
- High gloss cabinet artwork
- Green and red “illusion” powder coat
- Mirror blades
- RF-controlled color speaker lights
- Ninja pinballs
I mean, “ninja pinballs”?! Now I need to play this.
Alas, it’s a one-offer, a special request by a private collector, so they’ll likely enjoy it unless they bring it to pinball shows (novel idea). But it looks great, and it makes me wonder what the team is capable of doing next. Honestly, it’s so impressive, I kind of want to see them team up with Jersey Jack Pinball. Why not?
And with that, enjoy the classic film trailer. “Now you’ve had enough. Bitch.”
(Shoutout to Kineticist for the details on the table. Reading up on The Goonies as well!)
Have a great weekend, everyone! And, as always, thanks for reading.
