Yes, At One Point, We Had Teenage Mutant Easter Turtles

--

“Easter Bunny’s got thirty seconds.”

The 1990 movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film remains significant for a number of reasons. It continues to show how well Jim Henson Productions did on the characters (complete with Kevin Clash as Splinter), it’s got good action, and it’s a lot of fun after all these years. And, oddly enough, there was one point it had a strange Easter promotion.

On Easter Sunday in 1990, an ad was taken out that featured an introduction of the Teenage Mutant Easter Turtles. Check it out.

Perfect.

It was a neat little ad, with the live-action Turtles popping out of an egg and insisting they didn’t deliver them. But they still liked pizza, mind you.

Needless to say, it was effective. Not for the Easter theme, mind you, but because it gave families something fun to do on a Sunday night after a traditional Easter dinner. Because Turtles and Easter, right?

But I love a few things about this ad. The image of Turtles popping out of the egg is cool, and I love how the soundtrack — featuring M.C. Hammer! — gets a shout out in the corner.

It just goes to show that we could use more advertising like this. Imagine if Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (which is good fun, by the way) would’ve gotten some form of Easter tie-in.

“Now, remember, Godzilla, don’t fry them this time.”

“I never get to do anything fun!”

Anyway, thought you’d enjoy this trip back in time. Hope everyone has a great Easter. And if you don’t celebrate it, have a relaxing Sunday!
