Holy crap, what a mess of negativity. In an alternate universe, Bernie, as the Democratic candidate, would have energized the party’s base as well as many others who had largely tuned out the entire political process. Those energized citizens would have turned out to vote in huge numbers to swamp Trump, retake the Senate and possibly even the House. Moreover, they would have turned the tide at the state level and won governorships and legislatures. Those changes alone would have altered the dynamics of the political system.

But as we know, real power resides in the hands of those with great wealth, and thus, great influence. Here is where the “people” would enter the scene once again. Fully awake and aroused by their electoral victories, they would not return to their slumber and meekly accept business as usual. Rather, they would demand that their government deliver on promises made — or else. Of course, the establishment would resist with all their might, but an angry and demanding citizenry would have a fighting chance of winning the war. After all, in our alternate universe, elections would really matter.
