Again, your arguments are like shifting sands. You contacted me to tell me that you/conservatives/Trump are not racist. In response to my many specific concerns, your reply is, “No, we’re not racist and I will provide no evidence to my point because I don’t have to.”

It is clear to me that your assumptions are more powerful to you than evidence. You think you know a lot about illegal immigrants, when it is clear your knowledge is perfunctory.

Again, you offered no evidence, and you ignored mine. You may not have even read my earlier post about my experience working with immigrants and my professional expertise.

It is also clear to me that you care more about whether YOU are being labeled unfairly than whether anyone else is.

Again, my point is that vulnerable people, especially minorities, are suffering and dying as a result of this administration’s rhetoric and policies. This is why the racism question is even important in the first place — it’s not about you.@

This is the impasse I keep coming to: it is impossible to argue people out of assumptions, if they do not value facts. It is also incredibly difficult to get people to care about minorities and poor people if they don’t already.

The irony, too, is that if Trump continues down this current road, we will all suffer the consequences. The inability to create policies that help all Americans succeed, that promote peace and understanding and stability, will harm us all. The refusal to make educated, informed choices hurts everyone. We are both on this ship together, and I will continue to try every day to keep it from going down.
