New Britain CT’s Mayor, Erin Stewart, builds bridges, both literally and figuratively. It is just days after the New Britain Common Council “put its stamp of approval on the Beehive Bridge project” this past Wednesday night. The project will revamp the section of New Britain’s Main Street that runs over Route 72. This stunning and very literal bridge is the brain-child of Mayor Stewart.

Mayor Stewart also builds figurative bridges to underprivileged sectors of New Britain’s population through her Task Force to end homelessness, to commercial development by bringing in Costco, and to a sustainable future through solarization and switching municipal lights to LED technology.

In an effort to build a bridge between citizens and municipal offices, Mayor Stewart has brought SeeClickFix to New Britain, a web and mobile platform that enables citizens to report non-emergency issues, such as potholes, broken streetlights and illegal parking directly to city government. Once reported, a request is routed automatically to the proper government official, who updates the citizen in real time when the issue is acknowledged and ultimately fixed. Citizens also have the capability of viewing issues reported by others in their neighborhood, and can vote on issues they too would like addressed. In this way, citizens play a more active part in improving their communities.

“This SeeClickFix app and website will further make New Britain a technology-driven City, in which individuals can quickly and efficiently interact with City Hall to get the services they need,” said Mayor Erin Stewart. “This service gives residents the opportunity to play an active role in making us a stronger, more vibrant community.”

During the early part of the 20th century, New Britain was known as the “Hardware Capital of the World”, as well as “Hardware City”. Major manufacturers, such as The Stanley Works, the P&F Corbin Company (later Corbin Locks), and North & Judd, were headquartered in the city. The city is wonderfully diverse and offers residents and visitors an extensive park system, golf, a professional baseball team, a Museum of American Art, two theaters, plus a thriving Downtown District that was just recently added to the National List of Historic Places.

“We’re thrilled to partner with another mid size city in CT. New Britain is a community of highly engaged citizens with a youthful energy for improving their hometown. SeeClickFix will be a perfect fit for a small city on the rise.” — Ben Berkowitz, CEO + Founder

Requests can be submitted via the city’s website or via the SeeClickFix mobile app for Android or iOS.
