My Prayer

Let us breathe without being suffocated. Let us sleep without a parade of bullets. Let us jog without being hunted. Let us reach for ID without eight gunshots. Let s have ambition without jealousy. Let us succeed without being torn down. Let us have power. Let us have freedom. Let us have equity. Let us have equality. This is my prayer. The prayer of a Black trans woman navigating the American experience. An experience riddled with brick walls at every turn.
