We once thought humanity will have fully autonomous vehicles by now. Turns out, autonomous cars can drive on their own most of the time, but they occasionally get stuck in unforeseeable situations. Until a solution occurred in the form of remote control. The way we see it, teleoperation is an essential part of autonomous solutions. And can it make self-driving a reality? It most definitely can. In the near future, when an autonomous machine does get stuck, it will alert a remote operator — a person, who supervises multiple autonomous vehicles. The operator will bring up the vehicle’s video feed…
Roboauto is now able to mount an unlimited number of cameras with almost no restrictions from the vehicle perspective. We are no longer relying on an outside solution. Up until now, we have been using Drive PX, which proved to be a great choice for prototypes and testing purposes. However, now we developed our own modular teleoperation solution, Roboauto ECU. With this little box, you can get rid of the server room on the backseat and plug in something more lightweight.
Cost-effective?✔️
Ready for deployment? ✔️
No sensorics restrictions? ✔️
Why the change? A number of Drive PX components are…
A great success — second place achieved in a very prestigious competition Get in the Ring 2019 in the Lightweight start-up category opens up wholly new and valued opportunities to Roboauto. What was the journey to the best start-ups like and what benefits did it bring? Buckle up, the ride begins!
The Roboauto’s ticket into the Get in the Ring finale event was not so straightforward as it was for most of the other competitors. It has all began in offices of the company which stands behind the Get in the Ring event — the Unknown group from Holland. This…
At the end of May, the Roboauto team, having packed all the necessary devices, cables, tools, including a testing vehicle, set out on a journey to Helmond, Netherlands. There we participated in a very important mobile connectivity event in the KPN 5G Automotive Field Lab.
The event focused itself on the 5G technology. The future of mobile communication is inherently connected to the 5G network, which provides the transmission capacity and low latency necessary. New technologies are opening a whole new world and are becoming important actors in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Current networks connect people. The vision of the…
A critical part of development, yet a nuisance when not handled properly. We came up with our own solution and you can have it in a blink of an eye. Just like that.
Building robots is not exactly simple. That applies even more so in the automotive industry. One of the central aspects of the design and analysis process is how we interpret the robot’s behaviour. …
Self-driving companies are rolling out their technologies and so far, media seems to praise them for it. Today, I want to dig into the intriguing question of how self-driving cars will help to free up the land in our cities.
Routine usage of autonomous vehicles is drawing near and naturally, people are expecting some sort of change. We at Roboauto anticipate fewer accidents to happen and traffic jams to be controlled (in a way). One of the compelling assumptions considered in connection with the autonomous vehicles (AVs) supposes that we can reclaim back all the space taken by parking lots…
Since our car is equipped with cameras and sensors that make autonomous driving possible, we can further use the captured data and display them on an output device inside the car. For this purpose, a monitor fixed to the dashboard was a suitable choice. We set a task to create an application that would provide functions would be helpful to its user — such as:
Among other functions, that are appreciated…
Regarding autonomous car driving, there is one crucial matter which often goes unnoticed, and it is the possibility of remote car control. Of course, that the primary purpose of a self-driving car is the ability to drive without the need of any driver, however, situations when a driver would be necessary might still occur. As an example, think of a situation: you’re driving a car and suddenly you see that the route you are driving on is under reconstruction. At that moment all the rules you were used to following when driving might not apply anymore. To adapt and react…
The interest in shared mobility is seeing some considerable growth globally. There are already some companies offering great deals on car sharing schemes. It can be roundtrip car sharing, one-way car sharing or even personal vehicle sharing. All these options will bring a payment system called ‘ride splitting’. The idea is slowly spreading, but at the moment, it is chosen by relatively few people to commute to work. However, implementation of self-driving vehicles will push this growth to a much greater level.
Did you know that almost 90 % of all cars in the World are simply parked right now…
When it comes to training self-driving cars, it is a well-known fact that the best option is to train them in their software mode. That means one builds a type of real-world interface on a PC to simulate actual road conditions as well as input many unexpected situations which may occur during driving. There are many kinds of simulation programs that can help us. Recently, we were facing a decision on which one to choose. There is a lot to choose from such as the simulation program from Udacity which is sadly more for learning how to code and train…
