Investing In the Music Festival Culture
Festivals and other events seem to be popping up everywhere lately. Whether it’s CMJ, Burning Man or Treefort, there is something for everyone. But are these festivals profitable? And if they are, how can someone get in on the action? Well, here are a few tips for the entrepreneurial festival fan:
Two of the largest publicly traded festival promoters are Live Nation Entertainment (LYV:NYSE) and SFX Entertainment (SFX:EQ). These companies profit off trend followers and not trend setters. Because of that, I believe these companies are TERRIBLE investments. I wouldn’t touch these investments with a ten-foot selfie stick.
Investing in festival fashion is another tactic in festival investment. The obligatory “Festival Hat”

and “Navajo Triangle Tank Top”

have been festival fashion staples among clueless youth for years. Urban Outfitters (URBN:NASDAQ), which for many festival seasons has been the industry leader for washed up fashion, could be a viable route to invest in faux festival culture.
But I have something better:

The Porta Potty!
Renting these mysterious plastic cubicles is by far the soundest investment in the festival business. Industry leader United Rentals (URI:NYSE) can be a good place to park your cash for a sound return on your investment.
