Agree entirely that it’s important to distinguish Trump from Trump supporters. I think responsible people can and should identify Trump as manifestly unfit to be President, that he lacks the intelligence and disposition to lead our country. And this is an entirely separate judgment from saying that Trump supporters lack intelligence or a mature disposition.

Larissa MacFarquhar’s article in the New Yorker does a nice job of showing the sources of Trump support in West Virginia. It’s very much in keeping with your analysis here.
