My collaborators at the Evolution Institute, TheRules.org, and Smart Ecologies are laying the groundwork for a design science of intentional social change to rapidly evolve our systems of government, the practices and structures of market economies, pathways through educational institutions, and journalism models in the media. In short, we are preparing the platforms for collaboration through which millions of people will be able to participate in the wholesale redesign of our civilization.
This is a quality I look for when interviewing for any product team. Some engineers are enticed by technical elegance and beautiful technical solutions. If they are too intoxicated by their craft that they are blind to the customer needs, you will experience a painful misalignment with business needs and the software they deliver to you.
As it turns out, protectionism (preventing trade with foreign countries) hurts consumers and does little for workers. The worst-off benefit far more from trade than the rich. A study of 40 countries found that the richest consumers would lose 28% of their purchasing power if cross-border trade ended; but those in the bottom tenth would lose 63% (because they actually buy more imported goods).
