Outrage over people being outraged is outrageously annoying.

This article brings me back to my latest wondering which has to do with all of the advice I frequently see about “being yourself.” But what if being true to who you are is being a complete asshole? After reading the part about Stephen Fry’s outrage comment being taken out of context, I realize that “being yourself” doesn’t mean that doing so will suddenly make your life a happy one (which is the implication in all of the sunny advice). If your true self is an asshole, others may shun you for it. You should have the right to say what you think, and BE who you think you truly are, but you will have to own the consequences of those choices.
