It comes as no surprise that many people still considering Johor Bahru as a great place to go away when that calling for a break comes banging. This is our compilation of best things to do in Johor Bahru on your trip starting from the more accessible destinations to the rather far flung destinations that are still full well worth visiting.

Movies and Food — City Square JB and Komtar JBCC

Regardless of whether you are hopping on a bus, train or even crossing over the border on foot, JB Sentral is the immigration checkpoint that comes your way when entering into Malaysian territory. As you exit you will find yourself making way to an overhead linkway to 2 of the most popular shopping halls around the area namely City Square Mall and Komtar HBCC. In addition to watching watching movies and eat you can also let yourself loose shopping at some of the high-end brand stores and perhaps even treat yourself to a shoulder or foot message to help with the soreness of having splurged like it’s the end of the world!

Café Hopping

Go down to Jalan Dhoby and you might as well be in heaven- food heaven! It would bring to mind Haji’s Lane in Johor Bahru, only it is home to a blissful bunch of hipster cafes and boutiques all in old shop houses (couldn’t expect anything less from Johor Bahru, now could we?). The cafés areound the corner are a tad bit pricey- so don’t be shocked if you end up having to pay near RM15 for a coffee. But do take a second to appreciate the unique ambience of each and every café when visiting- one of them is actually a transformed and upcycled shipping container! The neighbourhood also houses a Johor Hotel or two so in case you haven’t already made reservations with a hotel such as Berjaya Waterfront Hotel, this would be an extremely unreal neighbourhood to spend a couple of days in!

Massage and Some more Shopping

One thing you will never run out of in JB- malls and mega malls to go crazy shopping. Yes, at this point it is beginning to sound like a disease because shopping is the only thing that we can seem to think about when in JB. But let’s be real, if you drive down to the KSL City Mall, you will know what the obsession is all about. It is located only a 10-minute drive from the JB city square. It is complete with its own hotel, multiple spas and salons, a cinema (of course!), a massive Daiso, a hypermart and what feels like a million different shops that you cannot help losing it! We would recommend getting one of those rejuvenating massages when here- its other-worldly!

Ice Skating and Rock Climbing?

The Paradigm mall is the (relatively) newer sensation in JB at this point. Located approximately at a 20-minute ride away from JB Sentral, it is ridiculously massive and take our word for it, you could get lost just as easily like that. Needless to say, it comes with a million different shops too, but what makes this place more interesting than most Is its indoor ice skating rink and its rock climbing gym. It’s a whole different experience to have at a mall don’t you think?

Legoland

You know your kids are going to want to be all over Legoland when in Malaysia. Let them have the satisfaction of all the thrilling activities that are on offer at these incredible theme parks. Make a day out of the thrilling Lego-based adventures they account for some amazing memories to cherish for life!
