AWS is one of the cloud service providers and most companies use the AWS cloud to serve their customers better by overcoming shortcomings. Here, Some of the customer stories going to discuss are BMW group, BookMyShow, and McAfee and how they overcame the shortcomings and server better.

BMW Group

The BMW Group is a multinational manufacturer of luxury vehicles and motorcycles. Headquartered in Munich, Germany, its brands include BMW, Mini, Rolls-Royce, and BMW Motorrad.

Challenge:

BMW Group needs to manage operations in 31 manufacturing plants across 15 countries and has to provide technical & customer-facing documents in numerous languages to customers, retailers, and suppliers. To communicate efficiently, they need an efficient and accurate machine translator.

Solution:

To overcome the challenge, BMW group uses Amazon Translate to automatically translate documents from German into 30 different languages. To enhance translation quality, the BMW Group also uses Active Custom Translation (ACT), a feature of Amazon Translate that gives developers more control over machine-translation output.

Benefits:

  • Reduced translation time by over 75 percent.
  • Reduced its translation costs.

Services used:

  • Amazon Translate.

BookMyShow

BookMyShow, a leading entertainment company in India, provides an online ticketing platform for movies, plays, concerts, and sporting events. Selling up to 200 million tickets on an annual run rate basis (pre-Covid) to customers in India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Middle East.

Challenge:

With on-premises servers that were often over-provisioned to cater to peak traffic volumes and multiple databases to store the huge volume of data.

Solution:

Moving 200 TB of data from over 10 different databases into a single data lake in Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), BookMyShow eliminated duplicate data copies.

Using AWS Graviton2 instances to run workloads on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) for secure and easily resizable cloud computing capacity.

Upgraded 15-year-old analytics stack with services such as AWS Glue and Amazon Athena for data integration and analysis which improved business insights.

Restructured the data management and analytical structure by using the AWS Lake Formation to create a secure data lake, Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) to run Kubernetes applications with zero administration, Amazon SageMaker and Amazon EMR to prepare and apply machine learning models to big data.

Benefits:

  • Lowered total cost of ownership by around 70 percent.
  • Reduced storage needs by 75 percent.

Services Used:

AWS Graviton2, Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), AWS Lake Formation, Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service, Amazon Sage Maker, and Amazon EMR.

McAfee

McAfee is a global leader in online protection and a US software company that develops integrated, simple-to-use security solutions for individuals and businesses.

Challenge:

The system needed to be able to capture key metrics at a scale that measures campaign performance with the on-premise database and maintain the huge infrastructure for heavy traffic.

Solution:

Migrating from current data to the cloud and upgrading from a relational database management system to Amazon DynamoDB which reduces response time.

For monitoring the databases, McAfee uses Amazon CloudWatch, a monitoring and observability service built for DevOps engineers, developers, site reliability engineers, and IT managers.

Benefits:

  • Lowered monthly infrastructure costs by over 40%.
  • Increased throughput to handle billions of read and write operations per month.
  • Reduced latency, resulting in decreased response times.

Services Used:

  • Amazon DynamoDB.
  • Amazon Cloud Watch.

Conclusion:

We discussed a few customer success stories of AWS and how it helped them in served efficiently. Thanks for reading!
