The thing that has always astonished me is that divorce is a much more binding contract than marriage. When you are married there is no redress if your partner cheats or if a third party attempts to seduce your partner away and potentially wreck the lives if you and your children. Divorce on the other hand is a legal business snd if you or your partner don’t do what you have agreed to then you can be pursued through the courts. If a couple were serious about each other then they should get married and then divorced and in the divorce they should agree to share their house, bank account and everything else they hold dear. That would be a lot more binding than the current marriage deal.
My tongue is in my cheek, at least a little but while states, like the UK where I live, go on about marriage, they actually do nothing to sustain it.
