We Have No Choice; We Must Keep Moving Forward

In this current sociopolitical climate, it can be easily assumed that the United States is burning. It’s easy to be pessimistic about our country’s future.

Everything about the current Trump administration is unprecedented. He is dangerously unqualified. He has shown very little knowledge of the US Constitution. His cabinet appointments are a joke. His twitter tantrums show his immaturity. He has a disregard for the truth and seems to get his information from right-wing conspiracy theorists/trolls. Every time I see anything on the news about anything he’s done lately, I fear for American democracy.

His campaign has left the United States deeply divided (yes, I see the irony in that too). The US always has been a divided nation, but slowly has been making progress, until now. His presidency hasn’t been any better, and it seems like it’s about to get a whole lot worse.

But in the face of all this, I am going to keep going, and so must all of us. We must all keep on moving forward, despite how daunting the future may seem.

I’m a realist; this doesn’t mean that we have to be 100% happy or positive all the time. There will be times where we will feel frustration and anger. I guarantee that there will be struggle. What we see on the news may be frustrating, infuriating, or just downright scary. Despite all that, I am choosing to move forward.

I am moving forward mostly because I have to. I have a spouse, a couple of kids, and people I love in this world. Giving up on society or the future isn’t going to do them or anyone else any good. For them, and for everyone else, I will persist.

Every single day, I’m choosing to move forward with courage and hope, and so should we all, because (quite frankly) that’s what the world needs right now.
