A friend of mine, Steve Bivans, had a great take on Ideas earlier this week.

Hi, Justin. I’m happy that this poem is resonating with so many people. I understand your point of view and I’m also familiar with Gilbert’s ideas (she gave a fantastic TED talk about it). In the poem, however, I prefer to think that the ideas are reusable, they don’t belong to anyone. They come, we write them down, and then they move on. The fact that they will visit another person doesn’t mean that the idea will be same. Like Steve said, they are in the ether, so what we can do is just grasp an impression of it, a personal interpretation, that depends on the receiver and will never be exactly the same.
