It is not that faculty have access to truth. It is that faculty, as a group of people who have spent their lives dedicated to education, scholarship, and learning have a responsibilty to make judgments about the way we as a community should pursue knowledge and engage in intellectual argumentation. That is our jobs. And while our authority as educators does not necessarily make us right, it means we are responsible to guide and lead students according to our professional judgment.
