Travertine stone not only imparts a rustic charm to your floorings and walls but also enriches the look of your interior spaces. It easily gets chipped and scratched. As travertine is a costly natural stone, it is necessary that you maintain it properly. Maintaining a surface does not only mean cleaning it regularly, but there are some other procedures you need to follow to ensure that it does not get damaged. D’Sapone has patented its travertine stone restoration procedures which include cleaning, sealing and repairing the surface. Our complete restoration package will preserve the beauty of your stone forever.

Before reading further about our travertine stone restoration procedures in detail, let us understand a few basic facts about the natural stone.

Facts on Travertine

  • Travertine comes in many shades of beige and brown. These neutral colors can easily match with any color theme in living rooms, kitchens and other areas of the house.
  • Travertine is easier and much lighter to cut and shape. Architects love working with this stone because shaping it requires less effort and it also looks rustic and elegant.
  • It is a heat-resistant material, which makes it an ideal building material for homes, fireplaces, bathroom floors and around swimming pools.

How Travertine Stone gets Stained or Damaged?

  • This natural stone is porous. It tends to absorb moisture and all kinds of liquids spilled on its surface. This dampness gets stagnant in its pores leading to mold and mildew formation.
  • Travertine is prone to staining. Any food spills, if not cleaned immediately, might cause staining on the surface. Staining also arises due to dirt and filth accumulation.
  • Travertine easily gets chipped. People use travertine in their living rooms. Upon shifting of heavy furniture, travertine tile may get chipped or cracked due to heavy impact.
  • Cleaning the stone with acidic cleaners leads to etching on the surface. Sometimes, acidic cleaners cause permanent damage to the stone.

All these above-mentioned issues faced by the stone are tackled by D’Sapone’s patented stone restoration methods on which we also offer 5 years labor warranty.

How does D’Sapone Tackle the Stains?

For deep cleaning travertine, we use a high duty liquid — Imperia Deep Clean, which is a deep penetrating cleaner. It enters the pores inside and knocks off the stains and mold at the root level. Many other contractors use cleaners, which only remove the stains from the surface. The mold breeding inside the pores takes only a few hours to develop again and spread on the entire surface. It needs to be removed completely from its root. Acidic cleaners, used by some people, cause etching on the surface. We ensure that travertine stain removal is done without damaging the integrity of the surface.

Steps Taken by D’Sapone to Ensure that Further Staining does not Occur

Only deep cleaning does not ensure that staining and mold formation will not happen again. To deal with this issue, we believe in sealing travertine with a high-quality sealer. We use Celine — a clear topical solvent-based resin or Repela-bond — an invisible natural look sealer for travertine sealing. These sealers enter the pores of the stone and shut the pores to prevent further staining and mold breeding. Celine imparts a lush shine on the surface while Repela-Bond renders a natural look. After sealing, polishing travertine stone will give a mirror-like finish to the surface. We also offer polishing services once the sealing has been done, using Celine. Polishing the stone gives a finesse and lustre that can last for a lifetime.

Can you Repair Cracked and Chipped Travertine Surfaces?

Our complete restoration package also includes repairing broken travertine. Our repairing services ensure that there are no pits, holes and cracks in the surface. We use Sentura — a versatile epoxy/resin filler formulated with 1200psi bond, to repair the cracks. Once it is used for filling the holes in travertine, it will never pop off. It also gives a very seamless repair job. Sentura can be shaded with more than 40 colors, enabling you to match it with your tile color.
