If you consider my profile, you’ll see I’m not in any way liberal. Fifteen years ago, I was firmly a “love the sinner, hate the sin” Christian bigot. And yet now, I’m an LGBT-ally.

Why? Because people who were gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transexual took the time to interact with me. As a result, I began to see them as people, not just “others”.

“Othering” is what allows us humans to ignore injustice, and to perpetrate it ourselves.

Unfortunately, articles like this do nothing to diminish othering. In fact, they make it worse.
