My First Obstacle Course Experience
If you have ever visited or read about Delhi, it’s known for its food and nightlife.
Not for its fit and athletic culture.
But on 10th March 2024, I witnessed over 9000 people partying without a drop of alcohol at a Delhi fitness event on a Sunday morning at 7 am.
Well, as a Delhi boy myself, this was something I never imagined I’d see.
Hence, I took a few weeks off to gather my thoughts and share this experience with you all.
Now, let me preface this by saying that I was ALSO super sore from my first ever obstacle course race (OCR).
Yep, you heard it right.
A little background about me — I’ve been on a journey of fitness and nutrition for the past 5–6 years. It’s been a rollercoaster ride, but one that I’ve embraced wholeheartedly. You see, I’ve struggled with weight issues for the majority of my life.
You can read more about it here:
For many of us, myself included, being fit was synonymous with shedding pounds.
But over time, I’ve come to realise that it’s so much more than that.
It’s about:
- Strength training
- Cardio
- Nutrition
- Mental well-being
- And yes, even sleep
So, as a litmus test of sorts for how well I’ve been balancing these aspects of my life, I decided to take the plunge and participate in the Devil’s Circuit — Asia’s largest obstacle race.
And let me tell you, it was a decision fueled by both curiosity and Adnan Adeeb’s infectious enthusiasm. Seriously, that guy could convince you to climb Mount Everest in flip flops if he tried hard enough.
The Devil’s Circuit Challenge:
Now, let me just say, I’m glad I didn’t stumble upon this challenge earlier in my fitness journey when I was solely focused on cardio.
Because let me tell you, running 5 kilometers, climbing the “High and Mighty,” descending the “Heights of Hell,” and navigating through the “Rumble Tumble” is no joke.
{These were names of some of the obstacles}
Adnan, Zeba Zaidi Adeeb, if you’re reading this, kudos to you both. You’re building something truly special, and I can only hope that the Devil’s Circuit continues to grow and inspire countless others to start their own fitness transformation journeys.
Oh, and a quick side note — there’s nothing quite like the sight of 50+ year-olds effortlessly overtaking you while you’re catching your breath.
Talk about a humbling experience that really puts your ego in check.
Lessons Learned:
So, what did I take away from my first obstacle course racing experience?
- Strength isn’t just about muscles — it’s about resilience, determination, and the willingness to push past your limits.
- And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that any journey be it your fitness or business, it is anything but linear.
Also, speaking of rewards, let’s not forget the post-obstacle indulgence rituals. I’ll confess, after crossing that finish line, I treated myself to an entire pizza and promptly napped for the entire day.
Hey, even champions(I am so humble) need their rest, right?
