Jewelry and fashion have kept on changing with age, and one can notice the same thing while cherishing paintings and art pieces of various eras. Some fashions have actually gotten “back in fashion,” while some of it is alive in just sculpture and paintings.

You can find hundreds and thousands of fashion forms in Indian art itself. We still can’t resist praising and adoring the designs and style of ornaments when we see beautiful paintings related to Hindu mythology.

Today, we’re here to share with you thoughts of Dr. Ravidarshan Vyas, who belongs to the Rajvaidya (Royal physician) family of Gondal and has laid a remarkable impression on all art lovers who have cherished his divine paintings.

Jewellery, fashion, and a keen artist

Jewelry and fashion have been an important segment and a remarkable part of my life, says Dr. Ravi, with a happy (and excited) expression on his face.
We didn’t let the chance miss out and pushed further the topic by showing our inquisitive faces.

Also, he is an artist, so he read our faces very well and considered us worth sharing his thoughts related to fashion, and that’s where the talk went deep.

I asked him what the segments and topics related to fashion that he emphasizes more in his creations are. “Shringar ras,” for an example, he said, Indian scriptures that narrates the glory of Indian mythological stories and their characters.

He added that rather than putting his 100% focus on the fashion culture of the Indian peninsula, he carries his curiosity everywhere during his travel escapades and tries to absorb every form of fashion that comes to his notice.
Strolling through the local markets of wherever he visits is one of his “super amusements.”

Window shopping, curious shops, tourist spots, exploring food and fashion, local arts and crafts altogether have played a paramount role in sharpening his tools and ideas for creations and compositions of his artworks.

When Hyderabad Nizam’s jewelry attracted his eyes!

He is so keen on fashion that he actually planned a special trip to New Delhi to view a limited display of Hyderabad Nizam’s jewelry. You can see this in this pic. Now that’s something that embraces rich history in itself. This jewelry might have seen much!

Dr. Vyas calls himself fortunate right from childhood, as he feels that viewing the best museums and exploring tourist destinations of the world has filled his backpack with not just memories, adventures, and experience, but actually more and beyond!

He gives the credit of his “Painted biography”…..to his immense treasure from his personal life, and that has played the role of a never-ending source of inspiration for his extraordinary compositions.

Fashion, and Dr. Ravi’s family! Ahh, what a relation!

Dr. Vyas carries a rich family history of around 114 years, and that means wardrobes and wardrobes full of fashion stuff, yes, of different eras. He doesn’t hesitate in filling a dress or two out, and try!

His family’s personal collection has also boosted his creativity skills, and you’ll be able to understand it better when you notice the glimpses of antique drape sarees and outfits of his mother, grandma, and other ladies of the family accompanied by gorgeous jewellery enriching the dresses of the main characters in his paintings.

Let’s link his family wardrobe with his masterpiece paintings!

Yes, you can see his family’s fashion in some of his most adorable paintings. For example, if you have a close look at Sitaji in “Tranquillity,” you’ll be amazed at the dressing of Mata Sita, and that’s actually Dr. Vyas’ mother’s hand-woven silk patola!

Yakshini, an impactful character in his masterpiece “Meghdootam,” is wearing his Grandmother’s brocade outfit, and in another painting — Urmila waiting for Laxman, is wearing an old brocade saree that actually belongs to his grandma.

Another example that’s truly endearing and charming is Maha Laxmiji wearing his Grandmother’s pure gold thread woven gharchola saree.
Those were some amazing examples of his paintings reflecting Dr. Vyas’ private wardrobes!

The rich example of Ashtavinayak Ganpati

As per the experience and impactful artist, his hunger for traveling and absorbing art forms took him to 8 Ganesha temples in the Deccan region of Maharashtra, and he exclaims that Ashtavinayak Ganpati is a great example of Indian textiles.

The mesmerizing mountains of Deccan inspired him to create this painting. You can notice, and-woven silk Paithani sarees and Peshwari nauvari (Nine yards) saree drapes are typical Maharashtrian, and this form of fashion is so wonderful that we can just pray that it never gets “out of fashion.”

Dr. Vyas’ paintings won’t let that happen, I guess!

A glimpse of Geetgovindam…

Geet Govindam — Rukminiji narrates a letter to Krishna in this painting, and it displays gorgeous Indian outfits. You can notice Rukmini wearing a hand-embroidered lehenga with Rajasthani tie-dye leheriya dupatta accompanied with exquisite jewelry.

These paintings make us feel — how beautiful Rukmini Ji might have been? After all, she was Lord Krishna’s wife!

This painting speaks a lot about fashion, doesn’t it?

Dramatizing scenes resembling Indian mythology requires in-depth knowledge of such a gigantic variety of subjects of fashion, ethnic textiles, and drapes. The artist’s words fall too heavily when he says, “ It’s a choreography on canvas,” and when we visit his private art gallery in Gondal, where you can find his whole series of paintings, which he named “Journey of Life on Canvas,” you’ll find that the ethnic and antique fashion was a thousand times better than what we call ‘modern fashion” today.!
