Having a free market beyond capitalism is easier said than done. You talk about control over others through debt servitude. I don’t understand it as a control, it is more of an obligation. You want investments in education, health and making the communities safe and prosperous. Where do you get this money from? You can either raise money or take a debt. If you raise money, you need to give back more money to your investors unless you account for social impacts. But these social impacts have a catch. Investing in improving the stature and lifestyle should yield better results in a tangible form some where else other wise this money is getting wasted. Second is raising through debt, but you won’t have servicing it and hence the lender suffers.
I am not in favor of hard core capitalism either. I believe in civic and economic morality, doing productive things which gets you money as well as improves the society. Mankind in general is very indiscipline. That’s why there is a separate bunch of people, which we call them government, to look after improving the society.
These aren’t tools of economic oppression. It is viscous circle of spending and generating money. Sure, distribution of wealth is a topic for another day. But, unless you tell me what do we replace capitalism with I am all for it.
Pardon the incoherence in my argument. I wrote it in stealth mode hiding from my boss who in fact is the CEO of a private company. He pays tax! :D
