It’s true what you say, though, about this being the double-edged sword of acceptance. One of the main things that popular culture does is commodify just about anything that makes its way into the public eye.
For us gays, that means that being more openly accepted means that our lived experiences are now seen as edgy and desirable to outsiders — even if it’s just a watered-down version of what we live and even if it ends up hurting us.
