There’s a problem in our country and it’s not going away on its own. We need to take decisive and consistent action in every county, parish, town, and city. No matter what part of the political spectrum you fall on, we can all agree on one thing: every single one of us deserves the right to have a say in how our country is run. Our country should be run by all of us, not just those with enough money to control everything.
The following is a list of party-neutral demands that we, as Americans who believe in democracy, must see instituted by any means at our disposal. Every part of this platform is designed specifically to allow the people to govern themselves, as was intended by the founders of this nation: government of the people, by the people.
Campaign Finance Reform Must be Enacted
More specifically, all elections should be publicly funded. If you’re not already aware, current campaign finance law has virtually turned the United States into an oligarchy. The wealthiest American individuals and corporations are allowed to fund the candidates that will best suit their needs with impunity and we know little to nothing about these shady closed-door deals. This means that our politicians are not beholden to us — their constituents — as much as they are to their wealthy donors.
