Does It Matter When Frank Ocean Drops His New Album?

So, Frank Ocean has not released an album since Channel ORANGE, which was a masterpiece, but does it really matter? His last album dropped in 2012, which seems so long ago, but what we have to realize is that you cannot rush terrific music. I still consider Channel ORANGE one of my favorite albums ever just because of how easy it is to listen to. Ocean’s voice, paired with his lyrical genius is just a dope combination and if Channel ORANGE dropped today, it would still be loved. I do not think people realize how good of an album it was.

I could listen to “Pyramids” everyday and become a better person because it is such a jam. It has a dark, stormy, yet futuristic feel and the full song is almost 10 minutes long. Even though he repeats many verses over and over again to fill the 10 minutes, I do not care because the song is a straight up jam and it is beautiful.

It is hard to find a bad song on this album, which is another reason why it is great. Yes, there are songs that are better than others, but there is not one song on this album that I skip over repeatedly. I would recommend watching his live performances of these Channel ORANGE songs so you can reminisce on how truly special this album was.

Frank Ocean has been working on his follow-up album to Channel ORANGE for a while now, and there are reports that it could come out at some point this month. Although, people have to realize that you cannot rush perfection; following up Channel ORANGE is not going to be easy, which is why he has taken so long to release a new album. That is the problem with music today, people think that if you release an album once per year, then you are an elite music star as long as you have one or two good radio songs on the album. But what if you release an album that has 10 really good songs on it?

Look at Chance The Rapper and Kanye West. Chance released Coloring Book this year, which was the follow-up mixtape to Acid Rap, which came out in 2013. Coloring Book is magnificent and it a special mixtape that you cannot stop listening to. Kanye released The Life Of Pablo in 2016, and he released Yeezus in 2013. Then look at someone like Drake, he is the arguably the biggest music star in the game right now, but I think we can make the argument that Views was rushed.

Drake releases new songs all the time, which is great, but you cannot rush great music. It would not shock me if Drake dropped another album next year and it would not shock me if it was not that great like Views either. If Drake took his time like these other artists, then he would be releasing memorable albums. But Drake is in a different category because he has been doing this type of thing for a while, so it would be hard for him to change. Still, I would like to see Drake take his time on an album.

It takes time to create a musical masterpiece, so give Frank Ocean all the time he wants and listen to Channel ORANGE because it is a timeless music treasure.
