Leading Your Career Means Owning and Asking for Support for Your Development

We all want to learn and grow and it’s great if you work for a company that supports time off for personal development. But if you work for a company that doesn’t have an official policy, how can you make the case to your manager (and the necessary higher ups) to support you? Follow a six-step plan to get the support and resources you need. Start by thinking through how you want to learn and grow and researching opportunities that interest you. Daily pauses help you be less stressed and more satisfied in your day.

Whether today is an epic list of to-dos, a routine you know by heart, or the unexpected, it’s always a good time to pause. I call a pause any intentional shift in behavior that allows you the space to experience a mental shift in attitude, thoughts, or emotions that otherwise wouldn’t have occurred.

Pausing can allow new ideas to emerge, more satisfaction, and new ways of being and behaving that are aligned with what matters to you. The only requirement is your conscious choice to decide to shift your behavior. …

The word mindful is not only about pausing.

What does that mean exactly? In Mark Thornton’s book, How to Meditate in a NY Minute, he defines mindfulness as, “Being aware of what is going on inside while noticing what happens on the outside”[1]. That doesn’t mean only noticing your gurgling stomach or tensed up shoulders. It also means noticing what emotions you feel (and of course, noticing those tensed up shoulders). I, too, am enjoying this fix of celebrity gossip.

Angelina’s seventh child. Kate’s pregnant again? Miley’s boyfriend did what? I feel a little bit out of touch, and I can’t tell if it matters that I haven’t been following pop…

Why everyone should stay curious

Stay curious. Have a beginners mind. Know you always have a choice in how you feel or what you do. You are not your emotions, rather they are a part of you.

I was reminded of all of this as I returned to my third Wisdom2.0 conference. I wasn’t even going to go. I decided that after two years of attending, I didn’t need to attend. I’d save some money and time and focus on other things. When a ticket was gifted to me, I made the choice to return. I was grateful for the opportunity. I couldn’t believe I…

Just a little intro to me and my writing

I write so that I can learn more about myself. It is the only way I know how to speak my truth, and communicate to others in a way that is timeless. Over the last year I’ve learned a lot more about this subject, and communicating my truth. I’ll save that for a later time.

I never set out to be an author, a writer, or even someone who shared her journal. It was probably the last thing I ever wanted to do because I believed it was so time consuming, or even a waste of time. But now I…
