It was a great week for Walker & Company
No, I’m not talking about all the great things in the press.
But…they were great, too:
- One of the best pieces written by Fast Company: http://www.fastcompany.com/3037933/the-visible-man
- Tristan taking the main stage here: http://www.fastcompany.com/section/innovation-uncensored-sf-2014#iusf2014-post-3032337

- Nas talking about W&Co: http://www.fastcompany.com/3038113/nas-the-investor-the-rap-mogul-talks-about-the-importance-of-supporting-diverse-start-ups
- A live chat between Tristan and our good friend JJ McCorvey: http://live.fastcompany.com/Event/A_Conversation_With_Tristan_Walker

Yes, yes… all of that was amazing, but it isn’t what made this week extra special for me.
What made this week special was our BBQ on Veteran’s Day.
On Veteran’s Day, W&Co threw a friends and family BBQ where we all went to a nice park and got our family together. That’s right. Family. Singular.
So…what’s the big deal about this BBQ?
- Well, first off, Isaac Elias helped plan and cook for this event. Cool thing about Isaac is that he’s a military vet. On this special day we’re reminded that Isaac supported our families overseas, and here he is doing it again.
- Tristan could have pulled the plug on this event and no one would have batted an eye. As you could imagine, all of the press resulted in an increase in traffic. An increase in traffic meant an increase in social activity, customer acquisition, support questions, and ultimately, risk. Most companies don’t go out and celebrate life at a time like this. In fact, they’d do the opposite and have them stay in the office all day, “just in case”. Not us. We went out there all smiles. Really.
- And selfishly, the biggest thing for me was that I got to show off my wife and kid. You see, to me, they are the 2 most special people in this world. When Mimmie accepted my hand in marriage, I knew I was the luckiest man in the world; when my daughter Madison was born, I knew I was the luckiest father. I wanted my team to know why I smile when I come into work and why I smile when I leave. Mission accomplished.
It was a great week at Walker & Company. And sure, the press was good, too.
