Yes, that’s a mouthful.

However, if you are a dedicated and passionate Cardano stake pool operator that is committed to being a voice for the SPO community for the long haul then voicing those words is a calling to you.

The Shelley era of Cardano has just begun only about 2 epochs ago from today’s date (Aug 10th), that’s a little over 10 days time for the uninitiated. Even in this short time, there has already been massive activity and communication among the vibrant and knowledgeable stake pool operators that make up this amazing community.

As Charles recently talked about in one of his latest videos, link below, all meaningful industries and trades form a guild of sorts that collectively represent the rest of the community.

The SPOCRA has been born out of necessity and committed to being a voice for all of the stake pool operators that want to contribute and benefit from participating in the Cardano ecosystem.

At the moment, this is the primary goal of the SPOCRA. However, as members are voted in and the structure is outlined there will be other goals. Such as formal positions, guidelines, standards, etc. that we will decide on together. Even the name of this organization, which is currently a placeholder, will be formally agreed upon once the board members are chosen by the other stake pool operators that want to vote.

In less than 24 hours the stake pool community has formed a messaging channel of about 100 operators and seen more than 1,000 messages go back and forth as ideas and formulated opinions were put forth to determine the best method to go about this.

Thus far, the community has decided:

  • All SPOs are welcomed
  • 7 member board
  • No initial CEO
  • All SPOs are notified of board candidate voting process via Telegram channels/ Twitter/ etc
  • Provide enough time for as much inclusion into SPOCRA by extending all previous deadlines by 6 EPOCHS (~1 month) with a final deadline TBD
  • SPOs submission for board candidacy begin now through [the end of] EPOCH 218 on September 17th
  • SPOs will be verified through a process that is undecided currently
  • SPOs submission for board candidacy must post 1–2 paragraphs to Discord channel #candidate-proposals
  • During EPOCH 219 (September 17th— 22nd), SPOs vote (votebot/ discord reactions?) on board candidate submissions in #candidate-proposals Discord channel
  • Top number of votes goes to a board candidate ballot in the #board-candidates-for-representative-council Discord channel
  • There are 15 slots in the ballot, 7 of them will become board members
  • EPOCH 220 ( Sep 22nd — 27th) for the board finalist vote
  • Only verified SPOs will vote on board ballot, 3 votes per SPO, must be different candidates
  • EPOCH 221 (Oct 2nd) board announced

If you are a stake pool operator that is committed to seeing the decentralization of Cardano succeed for generations to come and are also committed to being a voice for the collective stake pool operator community in the long term come over to the SPROCA discord server to post your proposal for candidacy.

Here is link to the discord server, see you there!

*To be clear, SPOCRA, is not anything official yet. At this point, the official name has not been decided nor any members as we have only been discussing how this will take place in a discord server. SPOCRA is a community project that is currently in beta mode looking to recruit talented operators from diverse backgrounds that aim to establish the foundation for forming collective representation of Cardano Stake Pool Operators (SPOs).
