Actually the Lenny Bruce point of reference in this post is without true understanding of Bruce and his act. He was not particularly funny at any point in time, his act was rather unpolished, particularly in the later years and is not an act that stands the test of time at all. In fact, Lenny’s later years were fueled by the notion that folks can’t take a joke, be it objectively funny or not. He waged a personal one man campaign against the legacy of repression that deemed him personally as obscene, and his act by default which led him to a drug fueled tragic end — he did not adapt at all to his plight. The notion of not being able to take a joke is not new. Tolerance is not humanities legacy at all.

What is new is the notion that folks have a divine right to attend a show AND dictate what the show’s contents. This is the current state of insanity. Comedy, the ability to understand and enjoy comedy within the confines of context is an very advance evolutionary point. A fully developed mind sees things in context, Comedy Show+Comedian+Era+Culture and even Venue, then uses all those reference points to see humor, or not. But the “or not” notion is akin to climbing a hill or failing to reach it, the success is measured in context and not in isolation.

Today’s comedy viewers simply failed to develop their mental systems of assessment to include context, they see things in isolation and have been perfectly trained by the education system to react to everything, react, react, react and use buzzwords, talking points and often comical reference points to take down the act they are VOLUNTARILY seeing. Racism is racism either by comedian or cop with a gun, all is the same. They see themselves as cultural warriors, with a crusade to remove the world of sharp objects, failing to see that the sharp objects are the best part of the world.

The ability to laugh at yourself is a very advanced state of being, what we see is the educational system, which was created to faciliate cultural destruction through animosity, fear and division (see Frankfurt School Fabian Society) which has created perfectly less evolved beings intolerant of the things they have been told to be intolerant of while standing on a soapbox entitled “tolerance is divine.”
