JAMA masjid is also known as Jami or Jumma mosque. Is a mosque in Ahmedabad, built in 1424 during the region of Ahmed Shah 1.

Ahmad Shah was the ruler of Patan, and at the time he was travelling from the Patan to somewhere while going they stay at ashaval(first name of Ahmedabad) for a night.
During that night Ahmed Shah heard a dogs barking and asked one of his members why these dogs were barking?
So he told that the dogs were barking on rabbits and the wonder is the rabbits were also answering to dogs by attacking, so Ahmed Shah got confused how could this happen?

After that, he asked one of his respected gurus, “How can this happen?” and in reply, he found that the water of this river has the power, that anyone can fight for them.

That’s Why Ahmed Shah built here a city and named after him Ahmed-Abaad after that name changed to Ahmedabad.

And one of his quotes still popular about the city that,” jab kutte pe Sassa aya, tab Badshaah ne Nagar Basaya”.

the Whole mosque built in yellow sandstone, the mosque complex is centred on a large rectangular courtyard 75m long and 66m wide.

the prayer hall is on the east side, in the centre of the courtyard is a rectangular basin for ablutions.

The main prayer hall has over 260 columns supporting the roof, with its 15 domes, making a walk through the hall a beautiful maze of light and shadows. The Wall of Prayer, the qibla is decorated. Pierced stone screens (the ‘Jalis’) are placed between the two pillars of the central openings. The main entrance is framed by two columns, the remains of two minarets (the ‘shaking minarets’) which were destroyed by the earthquakes of 1819 and 1957.

At that time Ahmedshah built Bhadra fort, teen darvaja and Jama Mosque in a very walking distance.

To the west of the mosque are the tombs of Ahmed Shah 1, his son and grandson, Ahmed Shah’s tomb.

JAMA mosque is the oldest mosque in the entire shahi mosques and built from sand-stone by different carvings on them.

There is a myth about JAMA mosque that Shahjahan was inspired by Jama mosque to built a Taj Mahal.
