Social Media- Blog 5
For this weeks class our main focus was social media and the way we can be perceived through social media. To start off we watched a short film about a guy called Phil who is now infamous for the way he acted on social media towards his “audience”. The video explores the idea that Phil Fish is no so much hated for the individual person that he is but for the idea that he represents. Although the way he acted towards his audience is seen as wrong and immature it brought him a lot of attention and short lived fame.

What we learnt from Phil Fish is that our online profile has a big impact on the way we are viewed, especially in the creative industry. We also learnt that we should always respond and interact with our audience in a mature and sensible manner no matter what they may say as responding in a negative way could have more negative repercussions
For our next task we were put into small groups with peers in the same discipline(audio) and find a recently released product(album/ep) from an artist of our choice and were asked to find both a negative and positive review of it. My group chose the recently released ep Future Present Past by The Stokes.

For the positive review we found an article written by Heather Phares for AllMusic who gave the E.P and 8/10 and applauded the slight change in direction the band took, “ Though the strokes have been together over 15 years when they released Future Present Past, it still represented a few firsts for the band” ( Phares, 2016) . While this review praises The Stoke’s there seemed to be a lot of different opinions ]. Derek Robertson for Drowned in Sound gave the new E.P a 4/10 and believes that The Stoke’s best days are behind them and what they tried to do simply hasn’t worked out, “Five ageing white guys with guitars is not where the Zeitgeist is headed: the giddy heights of their heyday are firmly in the rear view mirror” (Robertson, 2016). This tasked showed us that no matter how good you may think something you've created is , whether it is a song, film or a game, there will always be people who disagree for a range of reasons but it is important to treat them the same way you treat those who applaud you.
