You really have to go to biology to see what drives folks to rape and rob and commit other violent crimes. It is intrinsically about power and “proving oneself” in order to earn the best mate or the most resources, even though this is mostly subconscious on the criminals part. Of course rape is also about sex, but other factors play a huge part.

So yes, armed robbery is also driven by a need to assert oneself, otherwise one could just break into an empty house and take what they need.
