A Guide to Using Rooit
Download Rooit and create an account by entering your phone number, birthday, and gender (you can’t change these details after you have confirmed them). Next, choose the chatroom that you want to enter, and you can already start finding new friends to chat with ~ Every chatroom has a different set of rules for making friends, and different games to keep you entertained. Do also note that you are chatting anonymously in every room (but don’t abuse the power of anonymity!)
Soul Lounge
Open 24 hours, the Soul Lounge is set in a bar where you can order virtual drinks based on your mood, as though you’re actually at one! Bartender Josh (our AI chatbot) will prompt you to order a drink, and when a partner is found, you will then be asked to play a round of scissors-paper-stone in order to see who gets to choose the conversation starter. Pick a question that you’re interested in, and you can already start chatting with your new friend.
Be careful though, if no one says anything in the chat for 30 minutes, you’ll be automatically disconnected and asked to find a new chat partner instead (☉_☉)
Student Life
Unlike the Soul Lounge, the Student Life room is limited to students — you must enter a valid school email address in the ‘Input text’ bar, or send an email to school@gmail.com.rooit.me to obtain a verification number before you can enter the chatroom. Every night between 10.00 to 11.59PM, the seniors can choose a junior to match with, but neither of you can see each other’s photos or information within 3 days. You can add each other as friends only after extending the chat for the second time, and that is when you get to see information about your new friend ~
Rainbows Reign
Besides playing games in these chatrooms, you can also find more specific chat partners. For example, you can chat in Rainbows Reign if you want to make friends in the LGBTQ community 🌈 if you want to enter the chatroom but do not know the password, drop us a DM!
How to add friends on Rooit?
Every chatroom’s rule is different — it takes time for you to be able to check how to add friends when you click on the “…” at the top right hand corner of the chat. It normally requires you to chat with your new friend for a period of time, and to pass certain tests (of friendship!), but do take note that if there is no interaction on either side after more than 30 minutes, your chat will automatically end. If you ever feel uncomfortable during the conversation, long-press on the inappropriate message to report the user. There may also be times when your chat partner is too enthusiastic and keeps sending messages — feel free to mute notifications from the chatroom 😆
Lost connection during the chat, or been kicked out for no apparent reason?
Did you know that you can use the Message in a Bottle function to find your lost friend? After the other party has left the chatroom, the ‘Message in a Bottle” button will appear. Press on the button to obtain a finding number, and attach a screenshot of the conversation. You can also send a DM to Rooit — Message in a Bottle with your finding number and the chat screenshot, and the admin will upload it on the Facebook page for you!
