It is the worst of times; it is the best of times to try and make an online presence. In this ever changing digital landscape, morning’s fact is evening’s fiction.

And who do you call when separating these? Mythbusters! Or the experts at Willing2Digital.

Let’s get busting!

Myth: Digital Marketing is all About Social Media

Fact: Your Digital Presence Needs to Be Optimised Across Channels

We may think a thriving Instagram presence is all we need but Anuraag Chatterjee, who has been working in marketing for the past year, disagrees. Digital marketing being product dependent, he says, requires a wider digital approach. Apps, websites, social media, SERP ranking, and more need to be considered until the best platforms for your product or service are identified. Then you optimise those.

Does that mean you should be spamming all your socials with content?

Rouchelle Dabral, of Willing2Digital, disagrees. As does Anwesha Karmarkar, a social media manager with over half a decade of experience.

Myth: More Content = More Audience

Fact: People Appreciated a Human Content Strategy

Karmarkar insists it’s time to put the “social back in social media”. We at Willing2Digital agree. People want brands which look human.

No one enjoys being sold to, but most of us enjoy talking. Why else would we go to the same local vendors every day?

Engagement, appearing on stories, and talking to new people on DMs or newsletters is all necessary to make a mark online. Just look at how well Duolingo’s social media works after they started posting videos of their mascot doing everyday things.

This isn’t just limited to your visual content. No, even Google prioritizes quality over quantity as shown in their September 14th update.

Want to stay up on top of these digital myths and algorithm changes? Willing2Digital is just a click away armed with the latest information and techniques to scale your digital presence.
