On Tuesday, October 10, the Roosevelt Institute hosted the 2017 Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Awards at the remarkable St. James Church in New York City. The Four Freedoms Awards recognize the contributions of civil society leaders who embody the vision for a better world that President Franklin Roosevelt articulated in his 1941 “Four Freedoms” address. This year’s honorees included: Harry Belafonte, Freedom Medal; Ai-jen Poo, Freedom From Want; Dr Bashar Shala and Pastor Steve Stone, Freedom of Worship; Cristina Jiménez Moreta, Freedom From Fear; and Dan Rather, Freedom of Speech and Expression.

The turbulence of the past year has made the Four Freedoms Awards all the more important.
