Skipping rope is the best workout of all time — and vastly underrated. It has all of the benefits you get from running, in half the time, it cost $10 as opposed to $50 per month for a gym membership, and it can be used in the comfort of your own home. For women looking to lose weight after having a baby, a man wanting to trim up in the weeks and months before his wedding, or for someone who simply just wants to shed a few unwanted pounds, it is the best exercise you can possibly do. This post will outline and go into depth on all of the reasons why a simple jump rope workout is the best and most efficient way to lose weight. ropecity.net

How Many Calories Do You Burn When You Jump Rope?

When you jump rope, you use almost every muscle in your body. As a result, you are burning calories at a massive rate. Exactly, how many? Well, that depends on several different factors, including how much you weigh and the pace at which you are jumping.

If you weigh 155 pounds and you jump rope at a slow pace, you can burn over 650 calories per hour. At a moderate pace, you can burn over 740 calories per hour, and at a fast pace, you can burn over 900 calories per hour. The more you weigh, the more you burn. The less you weigh, the less you burn. According to mindbodygreen.com, a person burns 800–1,000 calories per hour when jump roping.

If you want to calculate the exact amount of calories you will burn during a jump rope workout, caloriesburnedhq.com has a fantastic “calories burned jumping rope” calculator. All you have to do is type in your weight, amount of time, and the number of jumps per minute and the calculator will tell you exactly how many calories you can expect to burn.

How Much Weight Can You Lose?

So you can burn calories, well, what does that mean exactly? How much weight can you lose? According to Mayoclinic.com, 3,500 calories is equal to one pound of fat. So you need to burn 3,500 calories more than you take in to lose one pound. Now, if that seems impossible to do — all for just one little pound — it really isn’t, at least, not if you jump rope.

If you do a simple 20–30 minute jump rope workout every day, you will be burning an average of 500 calories a day(or more) that you are not burning if you don’t jump rope. 500 calories a day for seven days is, you guessed it, 3,500 calories or one pound of fat. This means by a simple daily jump rope workout in the comfort of your own home, you can lose 4 pounds a month and as much as 48 pounds within a year.

Jumping vs. Running

So Jumping rope is a good workout and a great way to burn a lot of calories — that’s obvious. But is it better than running? According to cosmopolitan.com, a 155 pound person can burn just under 400 calories by jogging for an hour. If you were to jog for half an hour(which is more reasonable) you would burn under 300 calories. If we were to compare that to what we learned earlier about how many calories we burn when we jump rope, here is how that comparison would stack up.

So if you’re tired of having to leave your house every morning to go for a run and are unable to afford a treadmill, or you just simply want to find a more effective way to complete a home workout, jumping rope might be your answer. It only takes a small $15 investment and you are on your way! If you are interested in jumping rope and don’t own a jump rope yet, be sure to check out our Rope City Jump Rope Collection.
