OilMap is an independent initiative to monitor the Oil & Gas industry of world promoting transparency and accountability in decision making and investment.
As a data scientist, telling stories is one of my hobbies, so this website is an open, interactive and intuitive tool to be used by industry stakeholders for collecting and visualizing information about the World oil and gas industry.
Please note that the data being collected and represented here is constantly evolving. To make this resource more accurate and comprehensive, you can write me and be a contributor.
The objectives of World Oil Map is simple:
- To provide a consolidated and comprehensive overview of World Oil & Gas industry
- To provide a free and open resource allowing anyone, anywhere and at anytime to access information
- To provide an interactive, intuitive and easy-to-use user interface to give users maximum freedom in visualizing and customizing their research
- To foster an online community to assist in accurate and comprehensive data aggregation
Data, and lots of it is at the foundation of this initiative. However Data on its own holds very little meaning without interactive visualization tools to assist in making sense of the Data.
This tool seek to answer common questions such as where exactly are these oil blocks? What land mass do they cover? Who are their current operators and major investors? What’s the status of these oil blocks? etc.
