My sons’ schoolmate recently admitted to me that she was ready to go back to school. In fact, she told me sheepishly, she was bored.

Oh, summer boredom! Childhood memories surged forth of long, hot summer days in rural Oregon. Wandering through sun-bleached pastures while reading a book. Playing endless games of basketball with my two cousins, sticky with cherry juice and dust from the nearby orchards.
