The Bear Did What?!
The short film Bear is an Australian short film directed by Nash Edgerton. The film shows two couples in the very beginning waking up together, as the morning goes on, the female seems to be pissed at the male character for some reason. As she leaves mad, the boyfriend grabs some things and rushes to the car and speeds away.
If you have seen the film before reading this post, then you know what happens and the twist that we are given in the very end. Not going into detail, I won’t spoil it for those who have yet to watch it, but it was a shocker to everyone.
To those that have seen the movie or want to be spoiled, the man throws a surprise picnic for his girlfriend, dresses up in a bear costume to scare her. In fear and shock, she swerved out the way and fell off the cliff. You might think “OH MY GOD SHE’S DEAD!”, but she’s actually not dead. The boyfriend runs down to check up on her, and she is fine. In the midst of this, he puts on the bear head on and a few minutes later, gets shot and dies.
After watching the film, it got me thinking about what would happened if someone actually shot a person in a bear. Would it be considered self-defense? I did some research and technically the shooter is not liable due to “hunter harassment”. So if the man in the short film is dead, unfortunately in the UNITED STATES, he would not be liable.
Overall, this short film was definitely a rollercoaster. I wasn't sure of what to expect, but what I saw was definitely not what I expected. I recommend this short film, it keeps you on the edge of your seat and I think that is what many short films and movies need more of nowadays. Go watch Bear!
