Solar Eclipse Poem

I overheard the Earth say of the Moon

She falls into view

Natural as ever

Luminescent & unfettered

It has been 38 years

& she’s never looked better

Could I -

Would forget that which heats

My life blood

Eye-white-sky-light lover

Alive- ready to die

Happy in the cold

A million creatures gather

In the unlikeliest of places

To see her show spectacular

Block out all light of sun

In her midst we forget

The victories

The atrocities

Committed in the name of reason

Oh celestial goddess

Black bodied and pale faced

Draped in the darkest blanket

We too fall, only to rise anon

Humbler this time

Awoke to battles fought but hardly won
