Get Sever-d

The server choice we are going with is Express. Express is a software framework that runs on top of Node.js. This is a software that lets JavaScript programs run on a computer outside of a web browser.

Step 1: Download and install your pre-requisites. Download the latest LTS version of Node.js. The LTS versions are their current, stable versions.

Step 2: Express actually comes as a package for Node. You should install it using Node’s built in package manager.

In the folder your website is in, click File -> Open command prompt

Once a window opens input npm init

This will aid you in starting a new node project. It will ask you a few questions, like anything you ever install does. For the most part you can be lazy and just keep hitting enter until it finishes. You will now have a file named package.json This file tells node about your project; it also stores information about any packages you have installed for it.

Step 3: Input npm install --save express

This will install the express package and save the package to the package list in package.json.

A bunch of puke green lines will appear, this is node installing the packages Express needs, so it can run.

Step 4: You’re now ready to start coding your server.
