Quicken the personal financial management software stores our data in data files. But what if someone makes some unauthorized changes in these data files? So you can protect these files from unauthorized access you can set up a password. One cannot open the file to access any of the accounts within it until and unless the password is entered correctly. But it will not give protection to the file from being deleted, copied or renamed.

Just follow these quick steps to secure your files from illegal access:

  1. From the File Menu, open the quicken file which you want to protect by setting up the password.
  2. Go to the file menu and then select Set Password for this data file. You can set the password according to your preferences but make sure that you use alphanumeric symbols and minimum of 8 characters so that it is strong enough.
  3. Type in the password and confirm it. In the 2016 and previous versions of quicken you can use your intuit id as password to your file but in the later versions you can chose to set a custom password or use the file without a password.
  4. Finally press OK.
  5. Now the password is set for the file and you cannot access it until and unless you enter the right password. The password will remain in effect if the data file is copied or renamed.
