“The Chinese use two brush strokes to write the word ‘crisis’. One brush stroke stands for danger; the other for opportunity. In a crisis, be aware of the danger–but recognize the opportunity”.
- John F. Kennedy
There it is, the abundance of time we’ve been wishing for is now our reality, yet somehow we still can’t find the time for what matters. We wish this time away and dream of normal, but what if we could use this time to our advantage?
What if we could train our mind to zone in on our goals and take action towards them…
I see the tired eyes behind the smile.
I see your shoulders slump momentarily with the weight of responsibility.
I see the worries flash across your face.
I see the doubts, fears and uncertainties that swirl around your head.
The ones that make you doubt, question and second-guess your every move.
I see the ache in your heart, wondering who is that you want to be and what it is that you want to do outside of being a mom.
I see the constant battle of wanting time for yourself while also wanting to be your kids.
I see the…
We’ve been told countless time to be ourselves yet no one has taken the time to show us how to do it.
The phrase has been ingrained in our minds, but the message behind it is conflicting.
Be yourself, but don’t do anything to set yourself apart from the crowd.
Be yourself, but make sure to fit the mold.
Be yourself, but don’t forget to also conform to society’s expectations of you.
When you finally shrug off a lifetime of beliefs that in many cases aren’t even your own, the journey to being yourself is harder than you’ve ever imagined.

“Beautiful things happen when you distance yourself from negativity.” — Author Unknown
What we do when a bad mood strikes tells us so much about ourselves.
For most people a bad mood is justified, it’s a reason to bring up all of the frustrations in life, to lament their bad luck or unfortunate circumstances.
Except if we let them, these negative emotions will derail us and our day.
We’ll get lost in a downward spiral as we start to focus on everything that’s going wrong.
We all have our bad days, but most of us don’t know how to reset…
We’ve heard it a million times before.
Life is all about balance.
Yet, rarely is the phrase mentioned with any useful advice on how to master this balance especially as a mom.
All that comes to my mind is walking a tightrope dressed in a food-stained blouse holding a beam with kids and the husband on one end and EVERYTHING else on the other.
The truth is we can try to balance our life, but inevitably something will come up.
Your child will get sick.
A deadline at work will have you working late.
Weeks of trying to do it…
“The only thing that’s keeping you from getting what you want is the story you keep telling yourself.” — Tony Robbins
We all have a story that provides us with plenty of excuses of why we’re not where we want to be. This story comes up anytime we feel that dull ache to do more. It squashes our ambition and encourages us to settle for the status quo.
It’s easy to tell a story of why we can’t do or have what we want.
It’s harder to make changes to our lives.
Here’s why we need to rewrite our life…
I’m giving up all of the doubts that surface anytime I reach outside of my comfort zone, that challenge me at every turn and show up with fierce determination to keep me down.
I’m giving up the fears that tell me I can’t do this, that I’m not ready, that there’s someone better or more deserving.
I’m giving up the story of struggle, pain, misery and negativity that has surrounded me so many days and kept me aiming low.
I’m giving up the collective shoulds we absorbed all our lives — we should have a secure job, we should chase…
We have everything to live our dreams.
Every single thing.
Yet, what derails us every time is the belief that we don’t. That somehow we’re missing something, or inadequate in some way.
We second-guess ourselves and come up with elaborate if-then scenarios — if I only I had more time, money, support, and energy, then I could do what I want to do.
In fact, time, or lack of it, is the biggest excuse in our modern-day world that keeps us stuck.
Let’s face it, the chances that you’re suddenly going to have a day or week or month to…
“Know thyself” — This ancient Greek proverb could not be more true.
Yet, the biggest challenge most of us face is knowing the essence of who we are and what we want from life.
Worse yet, most of us the lack the time and energy to make these inquiries. We’re too busy hustling and trying to make things happen that we forget what it is exactly we’re hustling for.
“The unexamined life is not worth living.” — Socrates
Before you can achieve true success you need to know yourself inside and out.
What makes you tick? What aggravates you? What’s…
This writing prompt changed my life, but it’s not why you think.
The prompt: write a story based on a photo of a man in a cage facing a polar bear.
This is what popped into my head.
We eyed each other uncertainly from a distance. I think he sensed my growing fear as he approached. I couldn’t hear the sound of his paws on the snow, but I could see him advance closer with a blank expression. He looked like he could do no harm, but as he drew near, I was taken back by the sheer size of…
