Once you complete a book how do you select the next one? Recommendation by friends, goodread’s lists, linkedin posts, google links are some of the most common approaches people employee for picking their next read.

A book’s visibility increases multi-fold if it is recommended by top influencers. But these days with all the ‘paid influencer’ marketing, we are uncertain of the validity of actual quality of the book.

Compiling below a list of 5books that have been recommended again and again in 2021 by different famous people. I have read 4/5of these books and they genuinely are breath taking.

But wait, how am I not the same paid influencer on Medium? With the huge follower base of 10 people, you can be certain that no one will ever pay me to do this. :)

Below are the 5 books famous people have recommended last year over and over again.

  1. KLARA and THE SUN by Kazuro Ishiguro.

Book length: 303 pages

The book is about an ‘artificial friend’ Klara and her observations about humans. This book is recommended by Bill Gates and features in his blog as well.

It’s an amazingly fresh perspective which shows robots in positive light. The book will surely churn a lot of emotions in you.

2. A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

Book length: 462 pages

While this book released in 2016, it is still making a place into people’s recommendation. Last year it was recommended by Tom Hanks, an year before by Bill Gates.

This historical fiction is packed with emotion, humour and imagination.

3. Matrix by Lauren Groff

Book length: 260 pages

Historical fiction, passion, female creativity and aberrant faith packed in one book which you just might want to finish in one go. Sarah Jessica Parker recommends this book in her Instagram post. Barack Obama has this book in his top recommends for 2021.

4. Give and Take by Adam Grant

Book length: 320 pages

‘Success is not about competition; it’s about contribution.’ Adam is the author of best selling books Think Again and Originals. If you have not read any of his books, I strongly recommend to start either with Give and Take or Think Again. He has a phenomenal way of putting his perspective across. His way of writing is fresher than Jiro’s sushi! This book features in recommended list of Ankur Warikoo (Founder nearbuy.com).

5. E by Matt beaumont

Book length: 352 pages

Humour, creative writing style and brutal honesty! This is the ‘most different’ book that I have read last year. It is not recommended by any famous person. Sorry. Recommended by just me. Sorry again.

But read it! It’s something different.

All the above 5 books are unique and very different in their own ways. Yet will leave you speechless. Thought provoking, creative, mesmerising and fresh!

All the best for a super 2022 and hope you are able to read a couple of above books.

Cheers!
