Hospital Kuala Lumpur Pilot

Wounds A.I. and Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) are weeks into our partnership, an in-depth analysis of data gathered over the years by the hospital’s Medical Wound Care Clinic. The pilot will use Wounds A.I.’s patented technology, Cognitive Imagery System (CIS) to analyze hundreds of images and data of 92 patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) (healed/ unhealed).

Matching up patient files to images took weeks and proved to be the biggest challenge so far. Unlike the US, patient records are consolidated electronically, rather patient data is kept on paper files and images of patient wounds are located on 3 separate hard drives, phones and a desktop located inside the clinic.

Its during the process of consolidating relevant data that Wounds A.I. discovered an egregious error in wound image labeling. Currently, each image is organized under patient name and the date image was taken. It’s here we identified that some dates were incorrectly labeled due to a default setting on the camera used to take the images. A simple mistake that can cause downstream issues in treatment plans and analysis of progress or lack of progress.

Identifying the error is an example of how Wounds A.I. and HKL are working closely to ensure the data integrity of the pilot. Ultimately accurate data will allow us to gain critical insights about the wound’s healing trajectory, similar patient treatments, risks to healing as well as anticipating time to heal and estimated cost to close the wound.
